What is Lunar Birthday Calculator?

Converts solar dates to lunar and lunar dates to solar, and shows a table of what solar date your lunar birthday falls on each year for the next ten years or so. It uses lunar calendar data from the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI), and the dates you enter are not sent to a server.

How to use

  1. Use the tabs above to choose solar → lunar, lunar → solar or lunar birthday.
  2. Enter a date. For a lunar birthday, entering your solar birthday fills in the lunar month and day automatically.
  3. If you were born in a leap month, check the leap month box.
  4. Check the result, the sexagenary-cycle year and zodiac animal, and the table of solar birthdays for each year.

Tips

  • If your lunar birthday is on the 30th but that lunar month has only 29 days that year, it is calculated as the 29th and marked in the table.
  • If you were born in a leap month, choose between celebrating in the leap month in years that have one, or always in the ordinary month with the same number, whichever suits your family's custom.
  • Because a lunar birthday falls on a different solar date each year, checking this table in advance makes it easier to plan family gatherings.

FAQ

Why might the date differ from my calendar app's lunar date?
The Korean and Chinese lunar calendars use the same astronomical calculations, but because the time zones differ, some months start a day apart. This tool uses the Korean lunar calendar based on KASI.
How do I enter a leap month?
For lunar → solar, just check the leap month box. If that year has no such leap month, you will be told. If you enter a solar date, it tells you automatically whether it is a leap month.
Which years can it calculate?
From 1900 to 2050 in the solar calendar. There is no data for dates outside that range, so they are not calculated.
